LOCAL deerstalkers will be interested in the report brought back from the national conference at Dunedin reeently by Messrs A. Fattersen and K. East, that delegates considered the poisoning campaign should be suspended till all aspects of the risk of poisoning had been investigated. I11 all tliere were 03 delegates to the conference of the New Zealand Deerstalkers' Association, as well as 23 codelegates. Mr East told Ihe Tinies (liat; a comniittee was set. up to consider not only Ihe various angles of iioisoning as a deor c'ontro) niotliod, but also other alternative -means. They decided to acquaint the Minister of Internal Affairs witli tkeir views, and to ask him to delay tlie present campaign till a Tui 1 inquiry had been made. Eff'ect 011 Birds? II was considered imperative tliat Ihe public should be assured that the effect of poisoning was negligible rogarding the welfare and preservation of all New Zealand native birds. Mr East said that information given at conference showed tliat poisoning had already been carried out in both the 8011th and North Islands. Mellington delegates, for instance, said tliat poisoned, cut appies liad been found on tlie Rangiwahia track in ihe | western Ruahine ranges. The track was a popular access for skiers, trampers, deerstalkers, and pie nic-parties.
