TAUPO SOCCER CLUB HAS TO WITHDRAW FROM B.O.P. CONTESTS
Because so many of the Taupo United Association Football Club's players are required to work 011 Saturdays, the committee has deeided to withdraw from all Bay of Plenty clompetitious for the remainder of the season. Mr J. L. Bnrge, the club seeretary, says the Taupo club and some Rotorua elubs had to default in a number of recent games, and tlie eomndttee thouglit the game would suffer in consequenee. Other elubs had expressed similar views, but most were in a position to field teams 011 Sundays. The club president, Mr F. Howes, had interviewed several representatives of other elubs, and as a result a regular programme of friendly Sunday games was arranged with Mangakino, Kinleith, and others. Mr Burge said there was every reason to expect that an association of elubs in the distriet would be organised soon, and it would be possible to a rrange for competition games. At a recent meeting Mr Howes said that support for the loeai club was satisfactory, but local working hours left 110 option but to switeli from Saturday to Sunday football, if the game were to be kept alive. All committee members agreed with that, Mr Burge said, and tlie Bay of Plenty association had been notified.
