POSTMEN'S SCOOTERS TO STREAMLINE DELIVERIES OF MAIL

,Sir, — For the eonvenience of the public I suggest the following : (1) That a few letter boxes be set up in suitable plaees. It ;is troublesome to have to go quite a long way to the post office just perhaps to post a letter. (2) That the post office elock be placed outside the jiost office so that it may be clearly seen from the liigh street • — and let it be a reliable elock. (3) The postman should have a scooter for delivery of mail. It is hard on a boy riding a cycle in Taupo, as there are hills to climb and in the summer clouds of dust to get through. The bicycle is an out-of-date contraption that has not been improved on over the last 50 years. A smart scooter — bright red witli "Postal Service" on it — would impress and a roomy, waterproof carrier would take parcels, etc., and at the same tiine preclude pillion riding. Delivery too would be speeded up. iSuch a vehicle might be fixed so that it could not exceed 30 miles an hour or less. There should not be any difficulty in getting postinen for this service ; at present it is not a popular iob, and slow in action.
