PATCHY HOCKEY BY TAUPO AT MANGAKINO
There was a good deal of indifferent hockey by the men's and women's teams which went to Mangakino last Saturday to play representative teams from Southern Districts. The women lost by one goal to nil, and the men were overwhelmed by seven goaisrto nil. Through a misunderstanding, Boys Were obliged to play a scratch game with Southern Districts, whose team had some exxierienced players, and Boys lost by two goals to nil. After their creditable x>erformance against Napier tlie week before, Taupo men were disappointing. They failed to combine, and were seldom in jiosition. iSouthern Districts were always in Iiosition, and by taking the ball down both wirigs and centring hard, entered the Taupo goal seven times. There were patent weaknesses among the Taupo halves and backs. This Saturday will see the first bf the matches for the Grace Challenge Cup for women. Taupo hold it, and United have challenged them. This match is due to start at 2.45 p-m-after tlie men's match (Lake v Taux>o), which opens at 1.30 p.m. Boys liave a bye. In the next few days the Taupo Hockey Sub-Association is to discuss a notice of motion by the Taupo club that a registered xilayer for oue club may not play for anotlier team without the permission of the management committee.
