MARKED IMPROVEMENT AMONG BASKETBALL PLAYERS LAST WEEK

Though play was scrappy, and it was obvious teams had not put in any practice during the week, there was a marked improvement last Saturday in the style of some basketball players. In the Metro team A. McNichollas and P. Balmforth combined and xilayed well, goaling better than they have ever goaled before. Unfortunately, tlie sliiipery surface of the courts caused McNichollas to fall heavily more than once, which liad the effect of damx>ening the spirits^ of the rest of the players. P. Nicliollas in tlie defence was a tower of strength for her team, but most of her moves were foiled because of the weak combmation in the centre. For Taux>o, E. Horne in the defence made some good saves, using her lieight to achieve her objective. Playing Improved Lack of team practice and coacliing tactics were obvious in the game between these two teams. Sybil Ivahia played strongly for High School A, and her accurate goaling was pleasing. Sybil, who usually plays a sluggish game for High School B surprised, for she combined perfectly with the A forwards, F .Balmforth and T. McLaughlin.

A player who has improved out of sight is A. Morehu, of Tongariro B. Her ability has earned her a place in the Taupo A representative team, to play at Taiunarunui on Saturday.
