CLUTTER AT POST OFFICE
Mr Marshali's suggestion that stopping of motor-vehicles should not be permiited on the northern side of the pedestrian crossing at the post office, and right round the corner into Story Lane to just past the postmaster's house, gave couneillors some food for thought. One said that it might be inconvenient for some people if they had to walk some distance to conduct business at the post office. To that Mr Marshall said: "In tlie iive weeks since I came here, I have seen some very narrow escapes from accidents. That is my eoncern, not walking. Story Lane is quite able to aecommoclate any vehicles wliose drivers wish to go to the post office, and there is parking spaee 011 the other side of tlie pedestrian-crossing."
He said that with the present set-up, if oue wished to turn right from Story Lane, and a truck and several ears were parked right up to and sometimes round tlie corner, it was impossible to see Oncoming traffie from the right. "As it is 110 w. a ear approaehing fairly rapidlv from the right, will get you before you are started. Witli your eo-operation, I hope to- reduee the risk of accidents there." Cr Burge agreed that parking should not be allowed there, excepting buses wliose drivers w*ere unloading mails. Cr Barton said the greatest difficulty he found was with people who parked right at tlie corner. He thought that it parking were cut baek to tlie post office gate in Tongariro Street, or perbaps less than that, it should be sufficient.
