ATOMIC DUSTBIN
George Perry, of Boston, is the only rubbish collector in America who carries a geiger counter. His job : Dumping radio-active waste material. Perry, a , former deep-sea diver, operates from a converted mine tender and unloads the world's most dangerous "rubbish in waters known only to himself, military officials and the Atomic Energy Commission. He was making a good living in the salvage business when, in 1946, a Government representative asked him to : do his present job. Nov/ his business is booming. He has ordered more ships and men trained in handling radio-active substances. Is it hazardous? "Not nearly as niueh as it sound," says Perry. "The contaminated material is encased in steel barrells with a thick cement shield."
