Texas saies man Elmer Wheeler recently spread the gospel of "How to sell dangerously." In riding boots and 10-gallon Stetson, he toki members of New York's exclusive Saies Executive Club : "When you reach the end of your rope and you've got notliing to lose, jar your customer with dangerous selling. "If you're selling oooks,"' he said, "and the lady of the house isn't interested, just look at the book sorrowfully and say, 'Ma'km, I think you're wise nut to buy, because tliere probably isn't anyone in your family who could understand this one.' " If a man refuses to buy insurance. get a signed statenient to the effect j that you tried," Elmer told the saies- ! men. Ile added : "Then explain, 'I want j this meino^ to show your wife. I j don't want her bawling me out — after you're gone. I want her to know that I tried to give lier adequate insurance.' " 1 He quipped : "When the waiter brings the menu, say to the girl, 'What will my plump little pigeon have for dinner to-night?' "Ordinarily, you will get ofi at half the price."
