FIRE DAY DISPLAY NEXT MONDAY

Anniversary Holiday Attraction In Taupo As announced in our advertising coinmns (back page) tlie Borongh and Connty have organised a Parade and Demonstration of fire vehicles and equipment, which should be of great interest to the general public. It will take place in the Domain, Tongariro i Street. In no other district in New Zealand is there greater need for fire consciousness and both the Taupo local bodies are to be congratulated on their efforts to arouse public interest in the activities of the local Yolunteer Fire Brigade which, under the leadership of Chief Fire Oflicer Boss Douglas, has been displaying keen interest in its duties and a sense of responsibility which is indispensable in fire work. The Fire Day is to take place on the Anniversary Day holiday, Monday next, and will be attended by Brigades and other fire organisations of a widly representative nature. Besides urban Brigades from Rotorua and Taupo, there will be men, vehicles and equipment from the three major forest organisations in the County (the N.Z. Forest Service, Pine Products Taupo and Forest Products, Tokoroa), and representatives from some of the rural fire districts, not to mention the County's own fire fighting equipment. The Chief Fire Officer of the Rotorua Fire Board and Regional Oflicer for the District, Mr Will C. Clark, will be the senior Brigade Officer at the Demonstrations, and will explain the use of various items of modern fire equipment. He will also demonstrate the use of resuscitation gear for use when peole are overcome by smoke. The forestry organisations will be attending in considerable strength and will demonstrate the use of pumps, dams and other devices to overcome

the difficulties of fighting fires which are far removed from supplies of water. Another interesting feature of the demonstrations will be practical dis-

play of the new Holger-Nielsen method of artificial respiration now in general use for cases of drowning. Altogether the public who attend the Fire Display should have an interesting afternoon. Parents would do well to take their children to see the display, especially those old enough to "Play with fire." Apa'rt from the entertainment aspect, the general public could well make the most of this unusual opportunity to show that they appreciate the valuable work carried out by fire organisations, night and day, 365 days a year, to keep their homes and families safe from fire. It should not be overlooked that so many of these fire Brigadesmen are volunteers who get no pay whatever for their services.
