BIG STATE BUILDINGS FOR ROTORUA

A Government office block for, Rotorua, covering 43,000 square feet^ in three main storeys and estimated to cost £250,000, has reached an advanced planning stage. Stretching from Huapapa Street to Arawa Street, it will occupy land on which the present Ministry of Works offices and a private parking lot are now sited. A fourth floor will provide staff amenities. A thermal bore coupled to a heat exchanger will use the area's natural resources for central heating. It is understood that six months may elapse before Cabinet authorises the ealling of tenders. Plans are now being prepared for a combined new railway station and road services depot in Rotorua, and a new post office on the site of the present court house is planned for erection and use in 1960.
