TENNIS ASSOCIATION'S FIRST SERIES OF INTER-CLUB GAMES

The Taupo Tennis Association held its first series of inter-club games on Saturday, December 3, when Taupo met Waihi at Waihi, and Mokai met Waitahanui. Taupo was too strong for Waihi in all departments, and Waihi had unfortunately to default three games owing to one of their players being absent. In Miss Cribb, Waihi has acquired a player who may make her presence felt in interclub games. She surprised by defeating Gloria Cavaye in the singles, and in the combined doubles she and Boon took Waldron and Mrs Cavaye to an advantage set. In the men's singles Taupo had four wins and no losses ; in the ladies' singles, three wins (one by default) and one loss; mixed doubles, three wins and one loss ; men's doubles, two wins, no loss ; ladies' doubles, one loss ; making the taLly Taupo 12 wins, Waihi three.

As usual, the Mokai-Waitahanui match was very close, Waitahanui managing to win the odd match to make the score 9 — 7, although they were ahead in games as well. Waitahanui surprised everybody, including themselves, by winning three out of four mixed doubles matches, usually Mokai's strong point In the singles Mokai won three ladies and Waitahanui three men's matchee, and the doubles were all square. 'Sutherland and B. Simon, who had both won their singles easily for Waitahanui, went away to an early lead against Te Hiko and Rangi in the doubles, but careless errors and steady play by their opponents saw the Mokai pair break Sutherland's serve to win the match. In the men's singles Waitahanui had three wins, Mokai one ; ladies' singles, Mokai three wins, Waitahanui one; mixed doubles, Waitahanui three wins Mokai one; men's doubles, Mokai one win, Waitahanui one ; ladies' doubles, Mokai one win, Waitahanui one. The matches to be played to-mor-row, Saturday, December 17, are : Taupo v. Waitahanui, at Waitahanui; and Mokai v. Waihi at Mokai.
