TENNIS CLUB REQUESTS RATES REBATE OR GRANT FROM COUNCIL
A letter from tlie Taupo-inii-a-Tia ri ennis Cluh to I he Borough Council, (lated October 14, was hel'ore the Council reeenlly. in which the Cluh rrTerred to rates owing for 1955-56 on the Cluh property, ainouuting to £20 12s 6d. The Club said thev would appreciate any help the Council could give by way of a rebate on the rates, or by way of graut. The Club's committee, which was completely new, was faced with consulerable expeudlture owing to the
fact that over reeent years the courts and fences had been allowed to get into had disrepair. Councillors pointed out that they could jiot reinit paynient of rates. Cr W. G. Morris said that the Club's remedy seemed to be to raise their subscriptions. Cr Stanley said the Club had a lot of young members, and they were making a good start. He understood they intended selling the property later and coming over t> Ihe municipal Sports Cround. Cr Swan asked whether they might give i donat'ion out of t.lu4 Sports Cround f.und.
Cr ATedder said that the Club had been poorly controlled but t'le position was now much better. The Club was insisting on tne wearing whites on the courts and ocung ti tngs properly, for the first time for y^ars. He would like to give them some assistance. On the motion of Cr Stanley, seoonded by Cr Swan, it was decided to make the Cluh a grant of £10.
