MANNEQUIN PARADE IN AID OF ANGLICAN HALL FUND
The Mannequin Parade held in aid of the St Andrew's Church Hall Funds at the Memorial Hall on Thursday evening last was most successful, resulting in a total of £70, including a donation of £10, being handed to the trustees. The parade was organised by a committee of the St Andrew's Church Badies' Guild, under the chairmanship of Mrs J. T. Taylor. Mrs J. W. Birnie was responsible for training the mannequins and for production. The charming and effective decorations were arranged by Mrs F. Bostock. Mrs Neil McDougall, who initiated the idea of the parade, and Mrs E. W. Stott, were amongst other indefatigable workers who helped make the evening a success. A total attendance in the vicinity of 250 enjoyed an effective display of fashions by eight Taupo mannequins, Rewa Marlow, Vera Casson, Sally Kent, Audrey Patchett, Phyllis Miller, Nan Jenkinson, Patricia Bostock, and Gillian Woodward. Commentaries on the various frocks were given by Mrs Dorothy Petersen, of Rotorua. Arrangements on the stage were capably handled by Mr Charles Beslie and supper was prepared and served bv members of the Guild. Mr Ken Winton, secretary of the Church Committee, was in charge of the door. In the intervals between the various parade items, Mrs Alec McGregor entertained with her delightful singing, and Miss June Armstrong at the piano gave recitals from her repertoire. Mrs Phyllis Miller rounded off the evening with a song and Mr Bill Dolman, besides providing a piano accompaniment which added pleasantly to the effect' of the parade, also played a piano medley.
