URANIUM DISCOVERER WELL KNOWN TAUPO FIGURE
The discovery of uranium-bearing ore in the Buller Gorge by Messrs F.redei'ick Gassin and Charles Jacobseri is of special interest in Taupo, where the former of the two veteran prospeetors has been a well-known ligure for severn] years. Mr Cassin has diiring that ti ino been interested in the development of sulphur deposits at Lake Rotokawa, soine nine miles north-east of Taupo. Mr Gassin is a member of a wellknown Hastings family, and was at oue time in business there as a land agent. ITe left Hastings more than 30 years ago and since then has lived in several parts of New Zealand. I le has prospected for oil in a number of areas, ineluding the Wairarapa. During the time he has been in Taupo Mr Cassin has done a considerable amount of prospecting over a wide area. It is understood that Mr Cassin has established the presence of oil in the district, ancl also of radio-active rock, and that he believes that both discoveries are of considerable promise.
