At the Borough Council meeting on Wednesday, October 19, a auery J with regard to panelbeating in the i service industrial clistrict of the-^B borough as defmed. in the townJH planmng scheme was received Mr. T. M. Kent. Mr. Kent stated in his letter that a client wished to build premises in '| the service industrial district to house a panelbeater's workshop, -m and asked for a ruling as to whether j this would be permitted. Cr. Vedder thought that from a ;| nuisance point of view it might be J too noisy. Cr. Barton pointed out that if :|l garages were alloweo in the sei \ ice industrial area they could not j vent panelbeating, as garages also did panelbeating at times. Cr. Young thought panelbeating should go into the light industrial | district. Cr. Barton considered that panel* M beating could not be turnecl down in ■li the service industrial district in m view of the provisions of the town M planning scheme. This provided that .|| in a service industrial district land .^j and buildings might be, without® ^further consent, used for the f°llowvM ing purposes only : All trades and fl industries immediately serving the '1 population of the town and surround- m ing' rural district, such as laundries, bakeries, milk processing and dis- J tribution, garages and tradesmen's M m workshops. On the motion of Cr. Stanley, seconded by Cr. Barton, it was J decided that a reply be sent thaV/| panelbeating could be done in the M service industrial district under the® provisions of the town planning yl scheme.
