FURNITURE STOLEN FROM HOUSE
An unpleasant shock awaited Mr C. L. S. Carter, of Rangataua, Ohakune, when he visited his holiday house at Tauhara Township recently. He found that some £140 worth of furniture had been stolen since his last visit, a front window having been forced open with a lever. While such articles as a refrigerator, a lighting engine, fishing rods and gear and a couple of rowboats have been stolen in Taupo in recent years, the present theft is the most comprehensive. The articles stolen included an U1timate portable 7-valve radio, with dark maroon plastic case, No. 167544; two pairs of single blankets and one pair double blankets; six Nesta chrome chairs, unpainted; one drawleaf dining table, 4ft by 2ft 9in, with rimu legs and top of birds-eye maple glossy formica; two wooden armchairs with detachable seat cushions and backs covered in fawn smallchecked plastic or nylon material. It is assumed that the stolen goods were removed by motor lorry, a method made easy in many parts of the district where houses are often unoccupied. Police investigations are proceeding.
