GOLF NOTES

Twelve ladies only were available for the annual singles and fourball matches against the men on the Taupo Golf Club's course on Saturday, October 1. The men avenged their last year's defeat by 12 matches tc three, with three halved. On the Sunday a team of 18 players, senior, intermediate and junior, from Springfield Club, Rotorua, visited Taupo, led by the Bay of Plenty representative and past North Island champion, J. Deadman, matches being played on handicap. In spite of turning on excellent golf Deadman (scr) and D. Boone (2) could not match A. Graham and G. Barlow, Taupo, both on seven, in the morning fourball. Deadman accounted for Graham in the singles, but Boone again went down to Barlow. Springfield won the match 14 to eight, with five halved. Other Taupo D. Logan, H. Fearn, L. Holdsworth and D. Woodward ; G. Fraser and J. Woodward ; with T. Price and R. Davis all square, and in the singles 1). Logan, H. Fearn, L. Hodlsworth and A. Dance, with K. Rameka, G. Foote, G. Sutherland and J. Woodward all square. To-morrow is a free day, giving opportunity for playing outstanding matches and taking part in the "Play the Champion" contest arranged for all cluhs by the New Zealand Golf ! Foundations, conditions of which may be seen at the clubhouse.
