BADMINTON CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The first rounds of the Taupo Club's Badminton Championship matches were played on Thursday of last week preparatory to the finals last night (Thursday). The men's singles favourites, T. Waldron, J. Stevenson and K. Neill are still in the running*, whilst Mesdames E. Gale, M. Philpott and G. Davies are in fairly e:;aai favour for the ladies' singles. In the doubles several pairs are also of even strength and should provide interesting matches. Results of last week's matches were as follows. Men's Singles, First Round: C. McGreevy (-4) beat N. Williams (plus 3) 11-1; J. McLeod (-2) beat J. Gale (-1) 11-5; T. Waldron (-10) beat R. Bjorngaard (plus 4) 11-8; N. Hatton (plus 2) beat G. A. Acres (-6) 11-10; J. Stevenson (-9) beat R. Davis (plus 6) 11-6; I. Craig (scr) beat J. Arnold (plus 5) 11-8. Second Round: J. McLeod (-2) beat N. Williams (plus 3) 11-7; T. Waldron (-10) beat N. Hatton (plus 2) 11-9; J. Stevenson (-9) beat I. Craig (scr) 11-8. Ladies' Singles, Quarter finals: Miss N. Jenkinson (plus 5) beat Mrs P. Staines (plus 2) 11-6; Mrs E. Gale (-6) beat Miss M. Jones (-1) 11-5. Doubles, first round: J. McLeod and Mrs E. Gale beat J. Gale and Mrs M. Douglas 15-3; T. Waldron and R. Davis beat J. Stevenson and Miss N. Jenkinson 15-11. Second round: I. Craig and N. Kattcn beat C. McGreevy and Miss M. Jones 15-8; J. McLeod and Mrs E. Gale beat G. Acres and Mrs P.
