INDOOR BOWLS

The Taupo Iudoor Bowling Club's singles championships were run oft: over the week-end and the decision to play the men's and women's championships on the one day was fully justified. In the men's section Mrs Thoms withstood a strong challenge from Mrs Bostock to retain her two lives, and then after an even game lost to Mrs Banks (one life) who had accounted for Mrs Fort. However, Mrs Thoms settled down in the final to tuni the tables on Mrs Banks and emerge the winner. In the men's section Tierney accounted for .Simpson and then Tito, senr., who had beaten Rewa, to retain' his two lives to the final. Of the one-lifers Mahanga defeated Bostock, and then succumber to Tito, senr., which left Tito (one life) to play Tierney (two lives). Tierney emerged victorious after a very close and exciting game, with the final score 10 — 8. Final of Pairs The weekly competition on Monday last was won by E. Graf in the men's section with 27 points, and Mrs Bostock \yas winner of the ladies' section with 21. The pairs championships were finalised — Rewa and Miss Mclsaac defeating Mr and Mrs Morris to meet Tito and Tito in a 21 liead final. In a splendid game, the result of which was in doubt until the last bowl came to rest, Rewas and Miss Mclsaac emerged the winners. They just had the edge on Tito and Son most of the way, and with one head to go the score was 19 — 16 in their favour. With one bowl each to play at the finish Rewa was in a good position with four bowls counting. However, Tito had three back bowls and with a perfect shot trailed the kitty to the edge of the mat to place him three up. Rewa then, without hesitation, played a perfect draw shot to finish the head one up and give him the game with a final score of 20 — 16. Olosing night for the season will be field on Monday, October 10, when the prizes will be presented, and the annual meeting will be held on 'the following Monday night.
