TAUREWA WELFARE LEAGUE
The monthly . meeting of the Taurewa branch, Maori Women's Welfare League, was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs D. Anania, Ketetahi. Mrs Hepi presided. Opening prayers were led by Miss H. Moana. Apologies were received from Mesdames Herkt, White, McKenzie and Burton. Greetings were extended to a new member, Mrs B. Thompson, and observers. A letter was read by Mrs Turanga from N. Herkt, a local resident, but now in the Middlemore Hospital as a patient. Arrangements for the Tongariro District Oouncil, future activities and college appeals were the main items of business. Observers present were Messrs G. Turanga, T. Hepi, Misses J. Gillies, H. Moana. Hostesses were Misses T. and I. Anania. Competitions resulted as follows : Modern arts and crafts, - Mesdames Thompson, Turanga, Manunui ; sewing, Mesdames Turanga, Thompson, Manunui ; horticultural, Mesdames Manunui, A. Thompson, Turanga; health, Mesdames Turanga, A. Thompson, Herkt ; cooking, Mesdames Moses, Manunui, Ruhe. Mrs Moena was the competitions judge.
