BASKETBALL NOTES
In the final of the Basketball Association^s club championship, played at Taupo on Saturday, September 10, College Old Girls defeated Spa by 14 — 11. The winners thus attained the distinction of having been unbeaten throughout the present season. A seven-a-side tournament is to be played to-morrow, Saturday, September 17. The Association's "B" team took part in the Rotorua Tournament on Friday and Saturday, September 2 and 3, Mrs. J. Birnie being manager and Mrs. C. Rewa coach. Thirtyfive teams took part, divided into four groups. Taupo led the field, with Papakura, in one group each having three wins and a draw. In the playoff to determine which team would go on to the next round, Papakura was the winner. Details of Taupo's games were, a draw with Papakura, 4 all; a win against St. Michael's, 18-3; a win against Samoan Society, 13-10; a win by default from Agincourt; and a loss to Papakura, the scores being Papakura 7, Taupo 4. Cups and buttons won during the season are to be presented by the Association's patron, Miss K. O. Lewis, tomorrow afternoon following the seven-a-side tournament.
