MISSIONARY'S LECTURE ON AFRICA
On Wednesday evening, September 7, an interesting lecture was delivered in the Memorial Hall Supper, Room by the Rev. Father S. Carney,. of Rotorua, there being an attendr ance of thirty. The speaker, who is stationed at the new parish of St. Mary's, Rotorua, was for fifteen |years a missionary in the British Cameroons. His address dealt with native life, habits and ancient customs in that region of Africa, with much of interest also in regard to the wikl animal life of the area. On the Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. Father Carney spoke to the Catholic children' at the Taupo School during the halfhour set aside for weekly religious instruction. The aim of Father Carney's lectures is to promote more interest in. peoples of other lands and better understanding between people of dif~ ferent races and nations. Following the evening lecture the ladies of the parish served a delicious supper.
