END OF SEASON RUGBY
C.O.B. "A" Win Goodson Cup The Goodson Cup ten-a^side Rugby tournament held on Saturday last was reduced to one game through the non-appearance of the Maroa A and B teams, leaving College Old Boys A and B teams the only entries. The game between - these two teams resulted in a runaway win for C.O.B. A by 30 to 9, this team thus holding the Cup for the year. In the junior grade game, Maroa v. Taupo District High School, the final score was 8-5 in favour of Maroa. Maroa dominated the first half. O. Kirikau scored a try after thirteen minutes play, Heperi converting. Ten minutes later another try, scored wide out by J. Heke, made the figures 8-nil. In the second half, High School were on top, and after ten minutes of play A. Perry went over ten yards in from the sidelire, W. Turetahi converting to maku the score 8-5, but High School did not succeed in bridging the gap and the game ended without further change. For Maroa, Wickliffe, Ratana and Heperi were prominent. In the High School team Dick Ward, P. Dixon and H. Reid went very well in the backs and the forwards were all good, with Hika Thompson the most outstanding. As a result of the cutting down of the ten-a-side tournament the two school teams, Wasps and Fire, which were to have played in the interval of the Taupo-Onehunga match played two spells of 20 minutes each and put on some entertaining football. Wasps won 3-nil, Rex Ward scoring a try for the winners.
