Minister Refers To New Lake Control Project In the Ministry of Works Staternent presented to the House of Representatives recently by the Hon. W. S. Goosman, Minister of Works, mention is made of several hydro-electric power projects in the Taupo area. Among eight projects mentioned are three in this area, namely, Huka, Aratiatia and Parariki, of which the first two are said to be in an advanced stage. The Statement says that a report on the Taupo-Parariki section of the Waikato River will be presented shortly, and will include information on - site investigation at Huka, Aratiatia and Pararika, and also some prellminary information on a new Taupo control project. The Statement proceeds to mention that Parariki is not an economic development and is not recommended, but that its loss from the chain of \ Waikato hydro-stations has been al- 1 ready partly made up by increasing the head at the next station, Ohakuri. Huka is also not a good hydro power site, hot water and steam being found at comparatively shallow aepths. Aratiatia, however, offers opportunity for economic development, says the Statement.
