In recent years the Bay has become a favourite summer camping spot and to avoid health problems arising from uncontrolled use of the area the Government set up a holiday camp, control of which was given to the East Taupo Domains Board. The Point is not included in the domain. It is Maori owned and has been subdivided and leased in building sections, on several of which holiday homes have been erected
