LAKEFRONT MEMORIAL SEAT

There was appreciative comment at the Borough Council meeting on August 17, on the stone seat built on the Lakefront, near the foot of Tongariro Street, by Mr Sam Williams. Erected to record Miss Margaret Sweeney's swimming of the Lake on January 30, .1955, the work was done by Mr Williams free of charge. The council supplied material and the bronze tablet, while the local Ministry of Works Office supplied the coloured Atiamuri stone. On the motion of Cr C. S. Corrie it was decided that a letter be sent expressing the Council's appreciation of Mr Williams' fine job.
