Taupo Girls Win Fenton Cup
The Taupo Basketball Association's representative "A" leam defeated the Taumarunui representative teain at Taumaniinii on Satunlay, August 13, in a well-played game, winning decisively by 17 — 12. The victory gave the Taupo representatives the Fenton Ohallenge Cup, which was recently presented to the Taumarunui Association by Messrs J. A. Fenton, Ltd., f Taupo and Taumarunui. The cup is for annual competition between the two associations, and will stimulate the friendly rivalry between them. Outstanding for their play were the three forwards, Polly Maniapoto, who showed wonderful accuracy in shooting, Elaine Darlington and Haromi Morehu, while very good defence work was done by Susan Hay. The remainder of the team did their share, and were : S. George, C. Pitiroi, Joy Habib, Keren Reid, Z. Tawera, B. Itameka. The Taupo 41 A" representative team to travel to the South Island next week consists of the girls listed above with the addition of M. Jones and L. Andrews. With the team will be Mrs Pearse and Mrs Birnie as chaperones and Mrs Bat.es as coach. The Taupo "B" team also visited Taumarunui and played two games against the Taumarunui girls, losing the first game 15 — 12, and making a l()-all draw of the second. Those playing in the two "B" teams were: R. Erskine (captain), S. Wall, S. Rameka, R. Baggs, B. Bramley (vicecaptain) , M. Hough, Evelyn Banks, R. Samuel, L. Chadwick, N. Rawhiti, H. Andrews, L. Andrews. The Taupo 4B" representative team is to play in a Rotorua Association tournament at Rotorua on September 2 and 3.
