RIVER GAME SANCTUARY ABOVE HYDRO DAM

At the last Borough Council meeting Cr J. M. Stanley referred to the portion of the Waikato Biver between the Lake Outlet and the Control Gates Dam, and to the presence of wild ducks thereon. These had considerable attraction for visitors to the Municipal Oamp, and to others, and he thought it would be a good idea to protect them, and other birds frequenting the river from time to time, by having the area declared a gaine sanctuary. After discussion, the Council agreed that the suggestion was a good one. It was thought that the sanctuary might include an area covering the outlet from the Lake and its near neighhourhood, down to the Dam, and that Ihe Department of Intornal Affairs would he ahle to define the hounda ries if the project were approved. It was accordingly decided to write to the Department- asking their support for the setting aside of the area as a game sanctuary.
