BOWLERS' PRESENTATION TO MR C. McLEAN
Between 30 and 40 members of the Taupo Bowling Club gathered at the club's pavilion on Wednesday evening, July 13, for the purpose of honouring Mr. Charles McLean, a foundation member and office-holder of the club, on the eve of his departure to take up residence in Tauranga. Mr. McLean, who was vicepresident of the club last season, was elected a life member at the recent annual meeting. A toast to the guest of honour was proposed by the club president, Mr. R. McMillan, who presented Mr. McLean with a fountain pen and writing compact on behalf of the club, the toast being spoken to by Messrs. E. T. Smith and B. Baumberg. The speakers referred to the services rendered to the club by Mr. McLean and -stressed the part played by him in the early days of its formation. Many reminiscences of the club's early history were recalled by the guest of honour in replying. Toaats honoured were: " The Future of the Club," by Mr. C. Badeley, replied to by Messrs. J. McBeth and W. Prosser; " Foundation Members," proposed by Mr. W. G. Morris, replied to by Messrs. Tony Tierney and G. M. Crickett, the latter of whom gave .some details "of early attempts to start a club; "The Ladies," proposed by Mr. V. Simpson and replied to by Mr. Gordon Fraser. A number of vocal and ininstrumental items were given by members, and- a most enjoyable evening was spent. Foundation members present in addition to Mr. McLean were Messrs. H. Marlow, J. M. Stanley, E. T. Smith, J. Wells, Tony Tierney and G. lyL Crickett.
