SMOKING IN HALL
Permission Granted For Cabaret Dance In a letter read at the Borough Council meeting last week, Mrs C. R. Watson, secretary of the Taupo Free Kindergarten, applied for permission for smoking by those seated at tables which were to be placed round the War Memorial Hall for the cabaret and dance to be held tliere in aid of a the Kindergarten Fund on Saturday evening, July 3. Some 40 tables would be provided, each for four to five persons, and it would greatly add to the attraction of the evening if those at the tables were allowed to smoke. Permission was also desired for the serving of supper at the tables.
Cr J. D. Swan said he thought permission should be- granted. Smoking was forbldden in the hall in the case of dances and concerts, and he thought that that was as it should be. The proposed cabaret evening was in a different category, and smoking at the tables should be allowed, and simllarly the serving of refreshments at the tables. Other similar applications would no doubt be received, and each case should be considered on its merits. Cr Young agreed, and referred to such functions as wedding breakfastsHe moved that permission as'asked be granted. The motion was seconded by Cr Swan and carried. It was mentioned that fire brigadesmen would be in attendance. In her letter Mrs Watson mentioned that at the cabaret and dance the Reporoa Revellers would be present, and would pgovide entertainment on the stage betwreen dances.
