Councillors Urge Action Against Owners U , ■ ■ The perennial probleur of horsesr straying on Borough roads was agai'rr j raised by Cr C. J. V'edder at the-: Council meeting held on- W'edhesdayv June 15. He said that there were stiTl a lot of horses on the roads. A mare and1 foal were stUl on the roacV thougll reported six weeks ago; Tlley had never been touched. H'e had rung the office on four or frve occasfons and reported a horse.on the road and when he came houie- the horse was still there. The Mayor, JNlr J - E. Story, said that the trouble* was that if they took two of the Borough staff off a job to round up horses half a day's work was lost. The matter would be dealt with shortly when the ranger to be^appointetl jointly by the County and Borough eornmencetl work. Cr C. S« Currie said they should
prosecute the parents of children whose horses were impounded. Paying the poundage fees to get the horses out was no hardship. Children J were ti^eating it as a joke and they should prosecute as a warning. Cr Vedder said that a resolution to the effect that prosecutions should be taken had been passed by the Council two years ago and they had never prosecuted yet. It was a farce. Cr Currie said that he had been informed by the Council staff, in answer to his enquiries, that those taking horses out of the pound and paying the fees, had refused to sign the register when asked. One woman had got on the horse and ridden off in deftance. Cr K. E. Young agreed that the Council should prosecute and make an example of two or tliree whose horses had been ih and out of the
