Taupo High School Teams Visit Mangakino On Thursday, June 16, Taupo High School football and basketball teams V travelled to Mangakino. Two very even tussles with Mangakino High School teams resulted in the Taupo girls emerging victors in the basketball game, while the Taupo boys drew their Rugby match. The Taupo forwards dominated the first half of the Rugby game, S. Wi Warena's hooking and the lineout play of M. Isaacs and T. Percival givmg Taupo most of the.ball. The Taupo backs found it difficult to penetrate Mangakino's defence until H. Reid kicked through from 15 yards inside ftalfway,__beat the opposition for the ball and scored under the posts, W. Tnretahi converting. Taupo 5, Mangakino' 0. On half-time Mangakino conceded a penalty, Turetahi putting the ball between the uprights to give Taupo an 8—0 lead. Several changes made at lialf-time strengthened Mangakino, who were
on Taupo's goal line for most of the second half. Their fi'rst try came from a break-througli from a rack on the line, and the kick was siTccessful. Taupo 8, Mangakino 5. Five minutes before tirne Mangakino goaled from a penalty kick to made the game an eight-all draw. In the basketball game Mangakino's better goaling in tlie ffrst half produced a score of 4- — 3' in their favour at the hreak. In tlie second half Taupo broke through a stnbbom defence to score five goals to- their opponents' tliree, making the firml score Taupo 8, Mang^ino 7. For Taupo, K. Reid, S: T'ovepe, S'. Booth, R. Baggs and G1 WoodwaTd played very well.
