NEXT WEEK'S THEATRE
The three one-act plays to be presented by the Taupo Dramatic Society in the Memorial Hall next Tuesday and Wednesday, June 14 and 15, picture three varied aspects of life. Taupo anglers should enjoy "Birds of a Feather", for it deals with'piscatorial adventures in rural Wales. A poacher (a tinker by trade), a homeless waif under the tinker's protection, a Bishop and a keeper are led into situations as piquant as they are amusing. Jim Birnie, Bill Davies, Sam Howie and Jim Shields are the players, and production is in the hands of Jack McBeth. The second play, "Druid's Ring", with an all woman cast, introduces a note of tragedy, though there are also bright patches of comedy. The story centres round the superstitions and fears of villagers in a remote part of England. The jealous and possessive love of an embittered woman for her son brings the play to a powerful and dramatic climax. The cast comprises Avis Acres, Denise Baker, Patricia Bostock, Joy Kennedy, Sally Kent, Mary Kruit, Audrey Patchett and Catherine Scott. The producer is Beryl Kennedy. An aging actress, who has been dubbed "The Inconstant Moon", the title of the third play, lives in a world of pretence, making life difficult for those around her. Yet, for all her tantrums and "play-acting", she is a pathetic figure when a young girl's visit conjures up a reminder of the past. The cast is as follows: — Dulcie Cohen, Vera Leyland, Christine Moore, Patricia Thomas, Bob Acres and Charles Leslie, who also produces the play. - ■•••• ■ ' - -• : i ; ■ .• . > • •• • •; t- • *. ■
