BADMINTON NOTES
Ngakuru Defeat Taupo Ngakuru Badminton Club visitecl Taupo on Thursday, May 19, and obtained a comfortable win over the local team by 10 matches (199 points) to six matches (156 points)As the visitors play in a hall with a much lower ceiling they found it difficult at first to adjust their style to the different conditions, but soon recovered and their experience, combination and more aggressive stroke play carried the day. Although defeated, most of the Taupo players achieved at least two victories, and all showed improved form. In returning thanks " to the Taupo Club, the Ngakuru captain, Mr B. Yickers, extended an invitation to the Club to visit Ngakuru before the end of July. Results of the various matches follow (Taupo names being mentioned first) : Men's Doubles : J. Stevenson and C. McGreevy lost to F. Stunell and B. Vickers, 5/15 ; J. Stevenson and C. McGreevy beat B. Robertson and J. Stewart, 15/6 ; K. Neill and G- AAcres lost to F. Stunell and B. Vickers, 5/15 ; K. Neill and G. A. Acres beat B. Robertson and J, Stewart, 15/0*. Ladies' Doubles : Mrs E. Gale and Mrs Philpotts lost to Mrs I. Brown and Miss P. Linsell, 6/15 ; Mrs EGale and Mrs Philpotts beat Mrs MMatheson and Mrs L. Doust, 15/8 ; Mrs M. Douglas and Mrs B. Kennedy lost to Mrs I. Brown and Miss P. Linsell, 5/15 ; Mrs M. Douglas and Mrs B. Kennedy lost to Mrs , M. Matheson artd Mrs L. Doust, 12/15. Mixed Doubles : J. Stevenson and Mrs Gale lost to Stunell and Mrs Brown, 4/15 ; McGreevy and Mrs Douglas lost to Vickers and Miss Linsell, 4/15; Acres and Mrs Philpotts beat Robertson and Mrs Matheson, 15/10; Neill and Mrs Kennedy lost to Stewart and Mrs Robertson, 17/20; Stevenson and Mrs Gale beat Vickers and Mrs Brown, 17/16; McGreevy and Mrs Philpotts lost to Stunell and Mrs Doust, 5/15 ; Kennedy and Mrs Kennedy lost to Foster and Mrs Matheson, 1/15; Neill and Mrs Douglas beat Stewart and Miss Linsell, 15/4. The graded buttons changed hands last week when the holders, McGreevy and Waldron, who, since winning the tournament three weeks previously, had siiccessfully defended their trophies four times, were defeated by Stevenson and Beryl Kennedy by 15 points to 8.
