Taupo Woman's Big Fish
Fishing at Mayor Island from the Launch Ranrangi on Monday, March 8, Mrs S. Habib, of Nukuhau, hooked and.'landed a 4001b striped marlin, which put up one of the greatest flghting displays seen in the Bay of Plenty. The fish fought for some time; being worked nearer and nearer to the " launch. When it appeared j to be in the last stages of the strugI gle it -left the water near the boat, spun on its tail and fell across the Uounter of the boat. It wriggled back into the water , and ag,ain leapt. high into the air, this time over the s,tern, from where it crashed into the cockpit. Six other anglers whoj were watching the performance from the cockpit hurriedly vacated the scene, later returning to hit the fish on tlie head to kill it. It weighed 4001b.
