Referring to the maiter of reducel charges, Cr. J. D. Swan said that as ( 'hairini! n of Ihe Hui] Coiunii 1 tei he would like to explain lliat ihe Comnii(l(M» had no liiought of niaking a ju'ofif out of the hall. Tlu\v had been asked l»y the Council to work out n scale of charges aimed to ensure that the hall did not become a charge on Ihe ratepayers. He would poinf oui that the had would probahly ' cost about £700 per annum to run. Loan cliai'ges for principal and intoresf would be about £350 per aiinum. and on lop of this would be the earelaker's wages aial general ma iiueiiance. Thoy had tried (t work- out a sea le on tlie basis of annual eosl being £700. If revenue did not cover this. rafepayei's might well ask wliy th.ey should be burdenod with rates for tlie Hall.
