LOCAL M.P. VISITS TAUPO
Mr Ray Boord, M.P. for Rotorua, visited Taupo last week. On Friday afternoon, February 11, Mr Boord met the Borough Council, and was welcomed by the Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, on his first officiai meeting with the Council as the local member of Parliament , Mr Boord was given a summary of a number of matters aftecting the Borough. These included the need for the reconstruction of the highway along the Lakefront, and the Council's desire to have the spoil, which had been deposited* between tbp Municipal Motor Camp and the sitc of the State Hydro Departments Control Gates officer's house, levelled off. Mr Boord inspected the Lakefront highway with the Mayor and couiicillors, and the bad state of the old sealing was pointed out. The Mini.stry of • Works wish to have the highway between Taharepa Road and the Borough boundary near Edgewater widened by 33 feet was also explained to Mr Boord. With regard to the levelling of the spoil near the ■ Motor Camp it was explained on the spot that the area was required for additional Camp space. Mr Boord also met the Chairman of the School Committee, Mr W. L. Haines, with Committee members and Mr G. Foote, Headmaster, inspecting the school buildings and be ing given a summary of the Comrmttee's problems by Mr Haines.
