LAKEFRONT AMENITIES URGENTLY NEEDED
The urgency of making impfovements to conditions on the Lake beach, both near the one mile peg, or Taharepa, area, and also near the foot of Tongariro Street, was . mentioned by Cr. J. E. Barton at the Borough Council meeting on February 2. The clearing of lupins and blae.kberry by the Council stalf earlier had been a good move, but the growth was now becoming noticeable again. There had been a good deal of comment on the lack of amenities, and the beach was a great asset. It was much used, hundreds of visitors frequenting it during the recent holidays. In ' addition to shelter sheds for bathers, shade trees were badiy needed, something quick growing being indicated. Cr. Stanley moved that the Town Planning Consultant be written to with regard to the report on Lakefront improvements. Cr. Currie said conditions were primitive and dressing shelters needed, and queried whether a grant could not be obtained from either the Marine or Internal Affairs Departments;
