Band Concert Tomorrow. The Rotorua Municipal Band is to give a concert in the Marching Ground, ,foot of Tongariro Street, tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, January 15, at 2 p.m. The programme will include vocal items, and the Taupo Crusaders marching girls' team will give a display of marching. There will be a collection to defray expenses. * * * Tapo Marching Girls. The Taupo Crusaders marching girls team took part in the Whakatane Marching Championships at Whakatane on Saturday, January 8, coming second in the Open Championship. Efeven teams corm peted, the winners being the Rotorua Royalettes. Taupo's leader, Shona George, was second in the Open Leader's competition. A junior marching team is now being organised and its first practice on Sunday, January 9, was attended by twenty girls. * * %
Fire At Tauhara Township. The Taupo Fire Brigade was called to a scrub fire at Tauhara Township, near Four Mile Bay, at midday on Friday, January 7. A towering column of smoke attracted much attention from the Taupo lakefront. The fire started on unoccupied sections west of the highway, on the Taupo side of Mr M. J. Eagles' residence. It did not cross the road, but burned fiercely against the northwest wind toward several houses. The Brigade quickly ran a hose from its tanker and this, with the use of handpumps, enabled them to stop the fire. The fire, the cause of which was unknown, demonstrated the fire danger existing at present in the area south of the Borough boundary. i
