DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
GROWTH AND PROSPECTS An interesting event at the Taupo District High School on Friday last was a visit paid to the School by a number of parehts. The occasion was a "Parehts' Afternoon," for parehts of pupils in Standards 1 ahd 2 ahd Form I, the purpose of which was to enable them to be present during progress of classes. Parents of pupils in the classes mentioned had been invited to attend by the teachers, Mrs Sutton (Stds. 1 and 2), Mr Horne (Stds. 1 and 2), and Mr R.. H. Henry (Form I). In conversation with a "Times" representative, the Headmaster, Mr G. Foote, said that such gatherings could prove of considerable interest to parents, giving them an insight into the work their children were doing at school, and providing an opportunity for them to meet teachers and to make any enquiries they wished. The presence of parents on such occasions was also valuable, said Mr Foote, in that it indicated to the children that their parents were really interested in school activities. Such interest on the parents' part tended to increase the children's interest in, and appreciation of the importance of, their school work. Progress Of School Asked as to the School's growth, Mr Foote said the year was closing with some 450 pupils on the Primary Roll and 52 on the Secondary Roll. About 12 pupils of the Secondary Department would be leaving, but it was anticipated that the number in this Department next year would be about 80. The Education Board was now advertising for a fourth Secondary teacher, and further class-room accommodation was already planned for. This comprised five class-rooms for the High School and a Manual Training Block, which would be erected on the High School area dn the Spa Road during next year. i '
