TAUPO DEFEATS ATIAMURI

The Taupo Cricket Club's team opened the season on Sunday, November 21, by defeating the Atiamuri Club's eleven at Atiamuri by seven runs, despite being three players short. Forster and Frank McKean batted carefully but seized every opportunity to score each topping the thirty mark. At the end of the innings Denis Clark and Dawn Bailey held out until lunch when the closure was applied with the score at 91. Hastings showed the best bowling figures and Paton also bowled well. For Taupo, Forster bowled at pace for several overs, whilst Sam McKean kept up his spinners from the other end. After obtaining a wicket in his sixth over Forster reduced his speed and was hammered mercilessly by Paton. His successor, Bailey, struck form immediately however, and obtained useful lift off the matting to obtain five wickets in quick time. Bowling a couple of overs at the 3nd of the innings Denis Clark ob;ained the last wicket when there vere only 7 runs to spare. Paton was easily the best of the Atiamuri batsmen and obtained good supoort from N. Adams in a fourth vicket partnership. Taupo C. C., first innings. — G. A. Acres b Paton 13, A. T. Forster c R.
