SPORTS QUEEN DANCE
The Witches Dance presented in Rickit's Hall on Saturday, November 27, by the Sports Queen Committee, in connection with the Sports . Ground Queen Carnival Contest, provided something uhusual. The highlight of the evening was the Dance of the Witches, which began in a darkened hall to the accompaniment of a loud, whistling wind. Soaring in on their broom sticks the witches engaged in a wild dance until they fell exhausted round the traditional witches' Cauldron. This was followed by the entry of the witches' Cat, which danced in graceful feline manner until a ball it was playing with fell into ,the cauldron. The witches then snatched up their broom-sticks, the dance tempo inereasing to a climax marked by a double cart-wheel performed by the cat. To the sound of thunder a party of ghosts entered one by one, to take part, in a frenzied dance with the witches, which ended as the crowing of a rooster signalled the fading out of the lights, When the iights came on the ghostly visitants had disappeared, and despite applause they gave no encore. The script was the work of Mrs Treve Price and off-stage effects were done by Mr Charles Leslie, assisted by Mr V. S. Pearce. Leonie Manning danced as the Cat. The cast of witches comprised Mesdames T. Price, N. George, V. S. Pearce, R. Sinclair, G. F. Colbeck, Misses J. Branson and S. George. The ghosts were Mrs A. Acres, Messrs G. A. Acres, K. Bogue, E. Bonnor, L. E. Pearse, R. Sinclair, F. D. Stretton and J. Woodward. Prizewinners in the Monte Carlo were Mr and Mrs L. E. Pearse. The music was provided by Tom Isaacs' Bombers.
