SALE OF TIMBER GROWN AT 60/8

DOUGLAS FIR PLANTED 1934 To many Taupo residents who will recall the period when the N.Z. Forest Service commenced afforestation of the 60/8 Station, in the Waimihia Sub-division of the Kaingaroa Forest, it will probably be a surprise to realise that returns from the area are already beginning. A contract has1 been signed with Messrs. Robert Holt & Son, Ltd., Napier, to log approximately 27,000 cubic feet of Douglas fir from an area of 20 acres. The area is expected to yield about 24,000 posts and some sawn timber. The trees now being felled were planted in 1934, and this sale m&rks the beginning of utilisation in the south- [ ern portion of Kaingaroa Forest.
