DESCENT FROM TUWHARETOA Reference was made in the "Times" recently to the fact that the Maori Queen candidate in the present Sports Ground Queen Carnival. contest, Miss Keren Rangikawatea Reid, was descended from the great chief Tuwharetoa, from whom the Ngati-Tuwharetoa tribe is named, and his wife Te Paekitawhiti. The line of descent from Tuwharetoa and Te Paekitawhiti is as follows: — Manaiawharepu - Taraia - Whaia - Hinerua - Tuwharaua - Te Pari - Manukairewa - Ohekite - Tonake - Hingatahua - Te Iwimokai - Hinepare - Taima Rickit - Lucy Reid - George Rehe Reid - Keren Rangikawatea Reid.
