COMING C.A.S. SHOW
JOHN Y. TREVOR IN FAMOUS ONE -MAN ENTERTAINMENT The coming appearance in Taupo of Mr John V. Trevor, well-known English actor, producer and writer on stage subjects, under the auspices of the Community Arts Service, should be one of the most interesting entertainments seen here. Scheduled for Tuesday, October 26, in Rickit's Hall, the production comprises a one-man version of Shakespeare's "Macbeth," followed by "Design In Brocade," a subtle and amusing comedy of eighteenth century manners, written by Mr Trevor. Mr Trevor's "one-man-show" was evolved when he spent two years entertaining the Forces in the Near and Middle East, his success in that work being sufficient guarantee of its entertainment value. And Hugh Kingsmill, author of "The Return of William Shakespeare," wrote that Mr Trevor's "Macbeth" gave the very essence ofl the poetry and plot, and by cutting out the less inspiring portioris threw into high relief the miraculous beauty of Shakespeare's language. Mr Trevor has played and produced in most of London's West End theatres, and was stage manager to Leslie Howard and Oscar Asche from time to time. He came to New Zealand in 1950 mainly for health reasons and is Lecturer in Drama at Otago University. Jack Hawkins, recently here ffiming in "The Seekers," is a friend of John Trevor's and during the war was his senior officer in charge of some of his tours.
