The Ninth Life.

A white Persian cat once destined for a watery grave in Wellington harbour is now enjoying a life on the ocean wave as mascot on the Japanese ship Tozai Maru No. II. A lorry driver found the cat in a sack he had been given "to throw in the harbour," but stopped when the cat meowed. On opening the * sack he found the cat and three house bricks. He took the cat to the S.P.C.A. clinic. Just before the Tozai Maru No. II, sailed, the captain thought it would be a good idea to replace .the ship's mascot which had died. .He appealed to the S.P.C.A. to help him. The white Persian was last seen by S.P.C.A. officials tucked under the arm of a very delighted Japanese sailor hurrying back to his ship.
