BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY'S SPRING SHOW
MANY FINE DAFFODILS The Taupo Horticultural and Beautifying Society's Spring Show, held in Rickit's Hall on Tuesday, September 28, drew entries of fine quality in many classes, daffodils being especially prominent. Entries in the Bulbs, Cut' Flowers, and Decorative Classes were perhaps smaller than last year, but quality was not lacking. In polyanthus, Taupo's reputation for outstanding flowers was again maintained. In opening the show the Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, congratulated the prize-winners, as well as those exhibitors who had helped make the show a success even though they had not been prize-winners. The Society's President, Mr Price called on the judges, Mr J. Halkett and Miss Spriggs, to say. a few words. Mr Halkett mentioned his surprise at seeing such a fine display of daffodils, as he had thought that the relatively late date of the show might have prejudicially affected the quality of the entries. This, however, had been excellent. Prizes won at the Show were presented in the evening, by Mrs T. M. Price. Following this, Mr Price referred to the fact that Mrs H. Peart the Society's Show Secretary, was resigning for health reasons, and made her a presentation on behalf of the Society in recognition of her outstanding services. Mr Price mentioned that Mrs Peart had convened the meeting at which the Society' had been established. The judges, visiting exhibitors, and Committee members were entertained at lunch by Mr and Mrs L. Stephenson. Following the prize-giving, the flowers were auctioned by Mr W. G. Morris in aid of the Society's funds animated bidding producing some fifteen pounds. Prize Winners In the National Daffodil Society Class, open only to members of the N.D.S. or of the N.Z.
