NGAURUHOE'S ASH FALLS IN TAUPO

On Saturday last Ngauruhoe volcano emitted a constant column of ash which spread toward Taupo in a great fan-shaped cloud that hid the mountaln. By afternoon the ash formed a haze round the town. On Sunday the wind took the ash cloud to the east of Taupo. On Saturday and Sunday nights the wind changed to the north, and in consequence ash fell in Taupo that had earlier been carried northward of the town. The ash fall was heaviest on Sunday night, sufficient falling to show plainly on steps, concrete paths, and car-tops. The fine dust on Saturday caused many people to complain of sore throats and eyes.
