IN CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS |;j MATCH College Old Boys, winners of the McKay Cup, defeated United, Garrett Shield winners, in the Champion of Champions match at Taupo on Saturday September 11, the score being 15 — 6. United attacked from the first whistle but Old Boys pushed them back, and following further pressure from United J. Habib (U) missed a penalty kick. R. Ham, for Old Boys, assisted by Simon and Turetahi, relieved pressure with a run ending five yards from United's line. Following ten minutes of midfield play an Old Boys forward and backs rush resulted in J. Biddle scoring wide out. Some> eight minutes later an infringement by H. Maniapoto enabled A. Gray (U) to put the ball over rightj in front, to make the score 3 all. \ After some fluctuating play Simon, College hatfrset the backs going for R. Ham to score wide out. Promising movements on both sides broke down through solid defence and poor passing and the first half ended with the score 6 — 3 in favour of C.O.B. On resumption United attacked, but a wild one thrown by D. Rameka at midfield enabled R. Grace (C.O.B.) to collect and spread-eagle the defence. The ball went to Turetahi to A. Simon, who scored to make the figures 9 — 3. With Old Boys on attack a penalty against United produced a lovely kick from R. Grace, score 12 — 3. A United back movement then saw the ball go to D. Rameka to J. Habib to D. Rameka again for a corner try, 12 — 6. Old Boys were now throwing the ball about freely, constantly turning defence to attack. They failed to kick two penalties. With two minutes to go another penalty in Old Boys favour enabled R. Grace io goal for the final score 15 — 6. Mr K. Rameka was the referee.
