NGAURUHOE'S ACTIVITY CONTINUES
The deep rumbling noises accompanying Ngauruhoe's activity, heard in Taupo on the night of Friday, last,. August 20, were more frequent and louder than for some considerable time, Advice from Mr Gibson, N.Z. Forest Service officer stationed at the Taurewa Look-out, some four miles west of the volcano was to the effect that there was no lava flow on that night, but explosive outbursts were frequent. A violent "shot" seen from Taupo shortly before 11.30 p.m. covered the whole area of the cone visible from Taupo with glowing lava blocks. The outline of the mountain's summit as seen from Taupo is riow much altered, appearing slightly higher on the western side than on the eastern.
